Ecuador is regarded as a coffee country. We are a coffee producer country and Ecuadorians enjoy drinking coffee along the day as part of meals, after meals or just as a mean of social interactions. This overview of our country was brushed away in my first trip to the southern province of the country years ago.

In my very first minutes in Loja, I discovered what would be one of my favorite beverages until now. It was very interesting to see that instead of sodas, water, coffee or fruit juice, people in this region of Ecuador drank a very exotic herbs infusion. This beverage was part of meals; it was drunk as a refreshment beverage along the day, but also as a social gathering beverage during the afternoon and evening

THE MOST IMPRESSIVE BENEFIT IS THE DNA PROTECTION AGAINST MUTATION WHICH REDUCES THE RATE OF CELL MUTATION THAT LEAD TO CANCER

Beyond its exotic color, complex composition and aroma, Horchata Tea from Loja is a health enhancer and has a lot of therapeutic benefits. Since it is a blend of 20+ herbs, flowers, leaves, and barks, it is a beverage that offers all the benefits of all these plants at once. One of its most powerful effects is anti inflammatory, which alleviate body unbalance. By far, the most interesting health benefit is the protection of DNA against mutation which reduces the rate of cell mutation that lead to cancer.

The uniqueness of Horchata Tea lays on the fact that at least 40% of the blend are native plants from Ecuador, that are grown in small gardens and parcels by rural communities.  The other side of its uniqueness is given by the composition, the precise amounts in which the herbs are mixed, which is a traditional recipe that has been transmitted through generations. This beverage is drunk either hot or cold, and most of the times it is spiced up with a bit of honey and lemon droplets.
